Holt to host choral festival
November 23, 2009
Wentzville School District
The Holt High School A Cappella Choir will host the 35th Annual Invitational Choral Festivals on Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the C. H. Jones Auditorium.
Nearly 300 choral students from area high schools will participate each day in rehearsals that will culminate in an evening performance on both Monday and Tuesday evening.
Festival I on Monday will feature choirs from Francis Howell, St. Charles West, Francis Howell North, Duchesne, Sullivan and Holt High Schools.
Festival II on Tuesday will showcase choirs from Timberland, Fort Zumwalt South, Francis Howell Central, Troy-Buchanan and Holt High Schools.
Dr. Robert Sinclair, Director of Choral Studies at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, will be the guest clinician for the Festivals. Before his arrival at VanderCook in 2001, Dr. Sinclair spent ten years teaching in the public schools and has studied with such choral icons as Weston Noble, B. R. Henson, David Rayl and Wendy Sims. He will also be directing the Illinois All-State Choir this January at the state MMEA convention in Peoria, Illinois. His energetic style and expertise will challenge the student musicians and encourage them to be at their best.
Each school choir will perform separately and the concert will culminate with all the choirs combining to perform the three Festival pieces under the direction of Dr. Sinclair. Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for senior citizens and high school students. Students in middle school and younger are free.
