An exhibit of mixed-media paintings by artist Mary C. Nasser will be available for viewing June 3 through July 15 at O’Fallon’s Cultural Arts Gallery in the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Admission and parking are free. The gallery is open during regular business hours: 5:15 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday - Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.

Nasser’s mixed-media artwork often integrates road maps showing dramatic geological features. Listed on the maps are names and locations of petrified forests, lakes, volcanoes, mountains and valleys, and smaller geographic formations. Nasser uses paint, ink, colored penciled and encaustic wax to deepen the feeling of mystery and place, adding additional features and scientific notations.

“I study physical geology and the interconnectedness between surface and subterranean landscapes…[and] borrow images from geological diagrams of land formations to incorporate into my paintings,” says Nasser. “I am captivated by the idea that geological shifts and transformations seem to parallel both individuals and their relationships: continually changing, varying, shifting and developing.” www.marycnasser.com
