Lake Saint Louis
Dr. John Curtin’s intention was to complete 100 triathlons in 100 days in an attempt at setting a world record. He ended up even adding an extra, bonus triathlon.
On Sept. 7 at the 2008 NEMO Triathlon in Kirksville, Missouri, Dr. Curtin earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records by completing 101 triathlons in 100 days. He even raced two triathlons in one day, back-to-back.
Curtin’s intention was simply to complete each triathlon, but as the summer progressed, he become quite a competitor and actually placed in several races. He now qualifies for the Xterra National Championship in Lake Tahoe on Oct. 5. This race wasn’t one of the planned triathlons on his agenda, so Curtin must seek sponsorships to be able to participate.
The world record was attempted to benefit The Child Center, a local child advocacy group helping families who have been traumatized by child abuse and violence. Curtin explained that during the tour, when he became physically exhausted, his thoughts often turned to the abused children he was helping. He consistently kept them in mind, fueling his strength.
Curtin’s family is, no doubt, beaming and glad to have him home again. He said his plans this week are to “finish my mile long honey do list.” But training for the Oct. 5 event is on his mind and will begin next week.
If you would like to sponsor Dr. Curtin’s participation in the Xterra National Championship, give him a call at his Aligned Chiropractic office at 636-561-7702.
