Police investigate thefts from cars and vandalism

The Lake Saint Louis Police Department is investigating eight reports of thefts from vehicles that occurred in the city between May 27 and June 1, 2009. During the same time period and in the same general area, several incidents of vandalism occurred to include spray painting profanity and property damage.
All eight victims reported property missing from their vehicles including such items as compact disks, chewing tobacco, a backpack and its contents, sunglasses, over-the-counter medications, and small amounts of cash. In one incident, a digital camera and case were stolen. In all of the cases mentioned here, the vehicles were left unlocked.
Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael Force asks residents to, “Please help deter this behavior by locking unattended vehicles, removing valuables from sight, and leaving outside lights on to make it just a little bit harder for those who would take our property.” Chief Force added, “It is our collective responsibility to do our part as citizens to ensure a safe community. We all need to watch out for each other.
