St. Charles County residents awoke to a snowy scene this morning. The area received 1 to 4 inches of accumulation. At noon Saturday, a resident in Lake Saint Louis reported 3 1/2 inches of snow, and it was still coming down.

Forecasters are predicting light snow in the early afternoon, but snow will fall steadily starting around 3 p.m. This area can expect up to 4 more inches.

St. Charles County is under a winter storm warning until midnight tonight.  According to The Weather Channel, a winter storm warning is defined as follows: “A significant winter storm or hazardous winter weather is occurring, imminent or likely and is a threat to life and property.”

Before a winter storm, St. Charles County residents can be found stocking up on food and supplies ahead of time. Last night at Wal-Mart in Lake Saint Louis, shoppers seemed to be focusing on bread and milk. One shopper said, “Everyone is hurrying and not paying attention to where they are going.”

The Weather Channel offers a personalized family preparedness plan. Check it out here.

Remember:

Shoveling snow is a strenuous physical activity. Take it slow and take frequent breaks.

Road crews have been working to keep ahead of the storm, but wise drivers use extra caution. If the trip is unnecessary, it’s best to stay off the roads and enjoy the snow at home.

The hills in the area should make for good sledding with additional snow forecast Saturday night.
