Girl Scouts to pick up donations Saturday
April 10, 2008
St. Charles County
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri will collect bags filled with personal care items this Sat., April 12. Troops will begin collecting at 9 a.m.
Last week, Girl Scouts tied April Showers bags on residents’ doorknobs with hopes of gathering loads of items for those in need.
This is the 11th year for the April Showers personal care item drive. Personal care items will be delivered to local pantries. The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri website states that 99 percent of all personal care items donated to local pantries are the result of the efforts of Girl Scouts.
Personal items such as: toilet paper, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste and first aid supplies are being requested. The reason that personal care items are preferred is because these items cannot be purchased with food stamps.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri collected about 1 million items in 2007. The goal this year is to collect 1.2 million personal care items.
