Fire at Anna Nails causes minor damage

Wentzville and O’Fallon firefighters responded to a call for a water flow alarm in the WingHaven Centre at 9965 WingHaven Boulevard on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 7:02 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the alarm panel showed that the business Anna Nails was where the alarm had initiated. The firefighters made access to the business with keys from the building’s KNOX BOX ® key system. Upon entry, firefighters were met with moderate smoke conditions.
As the firefighters looked for the source of the smoke, they found that it was coming from the rear of the business where a small fire was located in a storage room. One sprinkler head had been activated, which held the fire in check until the firefighters’ arrival.
The firefighters finished extinguishing the fire and started salvage operations. Battalion Chief Joe Hutson said,
“The sprinkler system did its job by keeping the fire small until firefighters could extinguish it. The system did not allow the fire to spread to the neighboring units.”
The cause of the fire was investigated and ruled accidental. The damage to the business was minimal and Anna Nails was able to reopen for business by 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15.
Fire Inspector Steve Mosher credited the single activated sprinkler head as the reason for lessening the fire damage and the quick reopening of the business.
“Water is always easier to clean up than having to remove and replace fire-damaged building components,” said Inspector Mosher.
