Accident closes southbound Highway 61

A triple-car accident closed southbound lanes on Highway 61 at Point Prairie at about 4:30 p.m. Sat.

According to police reports, a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Leroy W. Strack, 87, of Harrisonville, MO, failed to yield to oncoming traffic on Highway 61. A witness at the scene said Strack pulled onto the highway from Point Prairie Road.

Strack’s car drove into the paths of two vehicles traveling southbound on 61: a 2004 GMC Yukon, driven by Courtney O. Hustermann, 18, of Troy, MO and a 2006 Ford Explorer, driven by Vincent D. Cain, 62, of Moscow Mills.

Strack was airlifted, with serious injuries, to St. Johns Hospital in Creve Coeur. His passenger, 82-year-old Lillian R. Strack, suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.

Hustermann and her passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis. Passengers were: Lisa M. Coose-Burkemper, 31, of Troy; Judi L. Hustermann, 41, of Troy and Tiffany M. Hustermann, 23 of Troy.

Cain suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.
