Moonlight bike rides in the park
August 8, 2008
St. Charles County
The St. Charles County Parks Department is inviting mountain bikers of all ages to join them for nighttime bike rides through the woods and prairies on the trails of three St. Charles County parks. The rides will be held during full moon phases in August, November and December.
The event is free, but registration is required. Participants must provide their own equipment, helmets and lights, which are required for the duration of the ride. Guests may want to bring water, flashlights and bug spray as well.
The moonlight bike rides are as follows:
August 16 from 9:00 p.m. until midnight at Indian Camp Creek Park. The park features more than eight miles of single-track trail. This ride will include some of Indian Camp Creek Park’s flat contour as well as a few steep hills. Indian Camp Creek Park is located on Dietrich Road, seven miles north of Interstate 70 and Highway 40/61 interchange.
November 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Broemmelsiek Park. The park offers seven miles of single-track trail. These trails feature gentle inclines and rolling hills through wooded areas and open plains. Broemmelsiek Park is located about five miles southwest of the Highway 40/61 and WingHaven Boulevard interchange on Schwede Road.
December 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area (Bangert Island). The park offers 2.6 miles of natural surface trail. This trail system features mostly flat terrain along single-track trails of sand and dirt. Bangert Island is located in St. Charles near the intersection of South River Road and Old South River Road.
