Wentzville
Discover St. Charles County Park’s multi-use trails at this upcoming kickoff event. Horses, bicyclists and hikers will unite at Indian Camp Creek Park on March 1 at St. Charles County’s first Multi-Use Trail Festival. Celebrating the County’s multi-use trails at Indian Camp Creek and Broemmelsiek parks, the event offers an opportunity for hikers and riders to discuss proper trail etiquette, learn the benefits of sharing the trail, and join guided hikes or trail rides. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Indian Camp Creek Park trailhead near Shelter #1.
The Multi-Use Trail Festival is open to all participants in any of the three recreational disciplines, although guests must provide their own bicycles or horses for those guided rides. The event will kick off with a brief discussion of the benefits of having a multi-use trail and on trail etiquette. Questions and comments on the park from trail users are welcomed at this session. Following the chat, Park Rangers and other park staff will lead bike rides, horseback rides and hikes along the park’s ten miles of trail.
Advanced registration is requested to help with Department staffing; although walk-up guests are welcomed. For registration information, or questions, call 636-949-7535. The three-hour event will be held on a weather-permitting basis, with event status posted on the Department’s Closure/Cancellation Hotline (636-949-7475) in the event of inclement weather.
Opened in October 2006, the 603-acre Indian Camp Creek Park is the County’s largest facility. The park provides four picnic shelters, ten miles of multi-use trail (open to hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders), and several scenic overlooks of the Big Creek and Indian Camp Creek that flow through the land. From Interstate 70, go north on Highway 40/61 for approximately seven miles to Dietrich Road (which is the first street on the left after passing Route W). Turn left on Dietrich Road to the park entrance and follow to the trail head near Shelter #1.
Formed in 1997 by citizens of St. Charles County, the Parks Department currently operates several parks within its system—with several additional properties under development. Located throughout St. Charles County, these parks offer open natural areas, picnic shelters, camping sites, special events facilities, fishing lakes and much more.
