Rain hammered St. Charles County today resulting in flooding and many roadway accidents.

Flooding was found in ditches and dams. Rain water pooled on streets and water gushed into storm drains. On Trailside Drive in Lake Saint Louis, a street sign, warning of possible flooding on the roadway, today turned out to be correct. Water, branches and debris on the Trailside bridge prevented motorists from passing.

On westbound Highway 40, between Prospect and Lake Saint Louis Boulevard, potholes filled with water and caught many motorists off guard. There were reports of vehicles off the road with flat tires.

St. Charles County is under a flood warning until tomorrow afternoon at 12:59 p.m. The National Weather Service maintains that motorists should never drive cars, trucks or sport utility vehicles through flooded areas because the water may be too deep to allow for safe passage.

Automobile accidents occurred today at the following locations: I-70 East of First Capital in St. Charles; I-70 near Lake Saint Louis; and on Highways 40 and 94.

St. Charles County is also under a tornado watch until 9:00 p.m. tonight. Residents are urged to heed all current and upcoming watches and warnings throughout the night.
