At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Clarence R. Golden, 82, of St. Louis, was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota westbound on I-70, east of Zumbehl. Golden was traveling in the center lane and began slowing due to the traffic ahead.

Traveling in front of Golden was a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer being driven by Michael D. Watson, 43, of Fulton, Missouri.

Golden moved from the center lane to the left lane in an attempt to avoid striking the tractor trailer, but did hit the back left of the trailer.

Golden sustained moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Health Center by St. Charles County Ambulance.

An occupant in the Dodge Dakota, Rosemary Golden, 81, of St. Louis, suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Johns in Creve Coeur by Arch Helicopter.

All involved were wearing seat belts.
