Real estate listings sometimes boast a home’s desirability by mentioning its inclusion in a “Triple A Rated School District.”

An online search today, turned up at least three companies stating in their ads:
“The quality of life here is unparalleled with Triple A rated schools…”
“…in a prime location adjacent to all three AAA-rated Wentzville Schools…”
“…convenient to the newest campus of AAA rated Wentzville Schools!”

Of course, parents want the best for their kids, and it makes sense that oftentimes, school district is the deciding factor of which home to purchase.

But, what is a “Triple A Rated School District?” Surprisingly, there is no such thing.

According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the category “Triple A” has been obsolete for over a decade.

In 1990, the Missouri School Improvement Program was initiated. By 1995 it was fully implemented. The MSIP began a different system of accrediting schools, scoring each district based on student performance revealed in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing.

Prior to the MSIP’s implementation, school districts were categorized as Triple A, meaning accredited; Double A, meaning provisionally accredited; and Unaccredited.

To find information about a specific school district, visit the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website.
