Man attacked by his 100-pound dog

Wentzville
Charles Paul Dees, 59, was attacked and mauled by his 100-pound African Mastiff Boerboel Wednesday morning at his residence in the 100 block of Stealy Road in Unincorporated St. Charles County near Wentzville.
Dees suffered extensive wounds to both arms, back and legs. Paramedics took him to St. Joseph West Hospital.
The St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department responded after a neighbor witnessed the incident and called 9-1-1.
Dees put the dog into a garage along with two other dogs, a Pyreneese/Collie mix and a lab retriever/Newfoundland mix. St. Charles County Animal Control arrived at the scene and, noting that the attack dog was agitated and vicious, tranquilized the dog.
The attack dog, which has a browning color with a black face, will be quarantined for 10 days. The owner will be asked to turn the dog over to the Humane Services Department. If that doesn’t happen, according to the division director, it will be declared a dangerous animal. At that point, the owner can ask for an emergency administrative hearing before the dog is euthanized.
The other two dogs were taken to the Humane Services Center, because animal control officers were worried about the dogs being penned up in a hot garage.
