Pitchers report to Quail Ridge Park
January 11, 2010
St. Charles County, MO
Although baseball’s spring training is still a few weeks away, pitchers are preparing to report for the second annual St. Charles County Parks Washer’s Championship on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the National Horseshoe Pitcher’s Association Hall of Fame building inside Quail Ridge Park.
Registration fees are $25 per two-person team. Both team members must be at least 21 or older. Registrations will only be accepted at the tournament site the day of the event beginning at 10:30 a.m. Questions may be directed to Bekin Youngblood (636-949-7535).
Teams are guaranteed at least two games in the double-elimination tournament that is co-sponsored by the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club. The tournament will begin at noon (practice time available from 10:30 a.m. to noon). Cash prizes will be awarded, with prize values dependent upon the number of teams entered.
“We had close to 30 teams participate in our inaugural event last year,” noted Youngblood, the parks department’s programs coordinator. “Based on the outstanding success of that tournament and increased appreciation for this fun activity, we’re expecting many more teams to compete for the 2010 Championships. This is a great opportunity to visit the world-class Horseshoe Pitcher’s Hall of Fame facility and to challenge yourself against the area’s best washer’s teams.”
In addition to the assistance of the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club, the Parks Department welcomes sponsorships by other area businesses or groups. Organizations interested in donating supplies, prizes, or volunteer support for this (or any other St. Charles County Park event) should contact Youngblood.
Quail Ridge Park is located near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Highway 40/61 in Wentzville. From I-70, go south on Highway 40/61 to Prospect Road. Turn right at the Prospect roundabout and make a right onto Duello Road. Follow Duello to the park entrance (approximately one mile). The NHPA Hall of Fame Building is located near the park entrance on Bluestem Drive.
Formed in 1997 by the citizens of St. Charles County, the Parks Department currently operates eight parks within its system—with several additional properties under development. Located throughout St. Charles County, these regional parks offer open natural areas, an extensive trail system, picnic shelters, camping sites, special events facilities, fishing lakes and much more.
