On Friday, Sept. 4, a note was sent to parents and guardians in the Wentzville School District regarding the upcoming speech from President Obama to the nation’s schoolchildren. The speech will be televised at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and is scheduled to last about 15 to 20 minutes.

The e-mail note stated the decision to show the presidential speech will be on a classroom by classroom basis. Teachers will be allowed to show the event if they feel it relates to class curriculum.

If any parents or guardians in the Wentzville School District oppose their child watching the speech, their child may be excused with a call or letter from that child’s parent or guardian. The student will be provided alternative activities and will be excused from participating in any associated curricular work.

Prepared remarks President Obama plans to cover can be found at the White House website here.

Suggested classroom activities offered by the Department of Education can be found on their website here.
