Wentzville Schools held a variety of events on Nov. 11 to salute service men and women in honor of Veterans Day.

Boone Trail, Crossroads, Duello, Green Tree, Heritage, Prairie View and Peine Ridge Elementary Schools all invited veterans to their special activities scheduled for the holiday.

Veterans were treated to breakfast, student performances, slide shows honoring past and present members of the military and guest speakers. Students also collected coins for The power of 11 Cents program which benefits injured veterans through the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund.

Wentzville students shared why Veterans Day is important to them:

“Veterans Day is when we celebrate who went into the Army and died for us and we celebrate everyone who is in the military.” –Benjamin, Duello 2nd Grader

“Veterans Day is when we remember that some people gave up their lives for our country.” –Jessica, Crossroads 5th Grader

“It means to me that my Dad used to fight in the Army, so I’m trying to sing my best,” –Mason, Peine Ridge 1st Grader

“Veterans Day is important to me because you get to honor the people who serve in the military.” –MacKayla, Crossroads 4th Grader

“Veterans Day means a lot to me because a lot of my family was in the Navy and in the war.” – Allie, Peine Ridge 4th Grader

“Today we honor the nice people that protect our country.” –Anthony, Prairie View 5th Grader

“We are celebrating our country and talking about our soldiers.” –Julia, Prairie View Kindergartner

And Parker, a Prairie View 5th Grader, summed up the day when he said, “America is free and strong because of our leaders we call veterans.”
