Wentzville Schools: Moving in the right direction?
February 7, 2008
Wentzville
The Wentzville School District will host a series of meetings intended to involve the community on the direction of the district. This new series, described as a “community-led engagement,” is named GPS: Guiding Principles for our Schools.
A small facilitating team, made up of some community members and district representatives, will lead the initiative. Anyone with a stake in the district, such as parents and members of the community, are encouraged to attend.
The district hopes to take results of the communications from these meetings to the school board to shape a strategy and direction for the future.
A flyer announcing the meetings read, “By setting positive Goals, defining Priorities and rethinking our Standards, we will work to improve education for Wentzville students.”
The district will explore issues such as:
Academic performance of students
Wentzville’s performance compared to other districts
Technology compared to other districts
Facilities beneficial to learning
Surging student enrollment
Staffing to best instruct students
The meetings will be held at Timberland High School, 559 East Highway N in Wentzville from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Meeting dates:
February 12—Topics: Student Achievement/Technology
March 11—Topics: Demographics/Enrollment/Facilities
April 15—Topics: Finance/Staffing
May 13—Communications/Security/Transportation
One mother with children in the district said, “I think it’s great that the district is willing to listen to us, the parents.”
