There were sunny skies above Bikers for Babies as they rolled through our area via Highways 40/64 and I-70. The event raised $315,000 for the March of Dimes.

Including passengers, approximately 7,400 people took part in the RIDE. Policemen stopped traffic to give clearance to the charity motorcyclists. Many riders waved and honked in optimism.

Fifteen years ago, the March of Dimes began partnering with motorcyclists to save babies from birth defects and reduce the risk of premature birth. In 2006, the ride had grown to include more than 40,000 riders and 250 motorcycle clubs nationwide.

Fund raised by Bikers for Babies will:
Help families of babies in newborn intensive care, with information and support to ease their fears and uncertainty.

Provide nurses with online continuing education about preterm labor.

Help pregnant women quit smoking.

Provide pregnant women with wallet cards listing the signs of preterm labor and what to do if it happens to them.

Provide prenatal course instructor training.

Help educate low-income Hispanic women on how to reduce the risk of premature birth and birth defects.
