Are you interested in adding a little color and life to your home but don’t have the space for a landscaped garden? Join the St. Charles County Parks Department’s Horticultural Staff to learn how you can create a beautiful garden for your deck, apartment or other small area.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, the Container Gardening for Small Spacesclass will present keys to choosing the right vegetation for assorted climates. At Shelter #1 in Quail Ridge Park, the horticultural staff will instruct participants on plants and flowers that prosper in various environmental conditions and then will help guests to create a personal container garden that they may take home. After the class, participants are invited to join a walk through “Dorothy’s Garden” to view the various wildflowers found within Quail Ridge Park.

Planting materials and equipment will be provided, but participants are asked to bring their own pot (up to 16 inches in size). The cost for the Container Gardening class is $15 per participant. Advanced registration is requested although walk-ups are welcomed.

Quail Ridge Park is located near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Highway 40/61 in Wentzville. From I-70, turn South on Highway 40 to the first stoplight (Callahan Road) and turn right. Make an immediate right from Callahan Road onto Quail Ridge Parkway and follow into the park. Shelter #1 is located on Blue Stern Drive within the park.

The St. Charles County Parks Department will offer nearly 150 programs for County residents and visitors this year at each of the eight parks open to the public. Including guided hikes and bike rides, events for children educational lectures and other natural recreational opportunities, the majority of these events are free and open to everyone. For more information or for registration, please call the St. Charles County Parks Department at 636-949-7535 or visit www.stccparks.org.
