Dogs in the know, know Broemmelsiek
November 8, 2007
It must be a little-known fact that Broemmelsiek Park offers an off-leash dog park. We ventured to Broemmelsiek Park earlier this week and noticed the dog area’s vast emptiness. There it was: neatly mowed, sunny (even a little nippy), with benches, hills, mature trees and a pond. It had everything. Except dogs.
So, we took our hound, Joe Cool, for a romp today. Usually confined to the house or a leash outside, he couldn’t believe his freedom. What did his beagle eyes behold? His kingdom.
We had a grand time throwing balls, chasing balls and sometimes fetching for real. Joe Cool even worked up a smidge of courage when he attempted to retrieve a ball from the water. After that adventure, he needed an afternoon nap in the dining room sunshine.
We have taken Joe Cool to Quail Ridge Park’s dog area a few times, and there are usually quite a few dogs visiting. The dogs seem to enjoy socializing, but we were glad to discover Broemmelsiek Park’s quiet location to spend some play time with Joe Cool.
In addition to the off-leash dog area, the 494-acre Broemmelsiek Park offers trails, fishing and picnic shelters. Soon there will be an astronomy viewing area and an agricultural heritage area honoring St. Charles County’s farming from the 1800’s to present and a 13-acre lake.
Broemmelsiek Park won’t be our secret for long.
