May 7, 2008
St. Charles COunty
The St. Charles County Parks Department hosts its Fifth Annual Paws in the Park celebration at the Quail Ridge Park Off-Leash Dog Area on Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This free event offers pets and their families a fun opportunity to enjoy the County’s community dog parks, which are unique in that they’re free and open to all guests and their pets.
Paws in the Park is a dog-focused, family friendly exhibition featuring contests, a raffle, exhibits from pet-friendly organizations, and a barbecue fundraiser sponsored by the Wentzville VFW.
Contests are: Best Trick (to be held at 11:45 a.m.) and “Dunkin Dogs” (scheduled for 1:15 p.m.). In addition to the exhibits and contests, guests may learn how to become a “Watch Dog” volunteer assisting with the off-leash dog areas by attending a brief seminar during the event.
Various organizations will provide informational exhibits on pet health, pet services, grooming, and other topics.
The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center will have dogs available for adoption; Westinn Kennels will offer free nail trimming; and Banfield, The Pet Hospital will provide micro-chipping for $10. Event sponsors are Banfield, The Pet Hospital; The Yuppy Puppy Pet Spa; the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center; Andy’s Super Scooper, LLC; Eden Chiropractic and Wellness; Kennelwood Village; St. Louie Tails magazine; the Community News; and the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation.
The 1.5-acre fenced off-leash area at Quail Ridge Park offers separate areas for large and small dogs, a covered pavilion, and benches to relax. Quail Ridge Park is located just south of Interstate 70, near Highway 40/61 and Callahan Road. The off-leash area is located on PawPaw Drive within the park.
On September 13, the Paws in the Park festivities will continue at the new dog park inside Broemmelsiek Park. The 2.5-acre fenced off-leash area at Broemmelsiek Park offers abundant shade and a water feature to maximize enjoyment.
Broemmelsiek Park is located at the intersection of Schwede and Wilson roads (the dog park is located on Wilson Road), approximately one-half mile west of Highway DD and four miles southwest of the intersection of Highway 40/61 and WingHaven Boulevard.
